Maine Food Events

The Maine menu is full of fun, informative and delicious food-focused events throughout the year. Whether you’re looking for the glamour of wine tastings or want to get down and dirty at the farm, come eat with us.

  • Maine’s dining scene is so epic that Maine Restaurant Week is actually two whole weeks long. Spend the first half of March indulging in the best Maine’s chefs and producers have to offer, from the Incredible Breakfast Cook-off to cooking classes and dessert pairings.
  • Maine Maple Sunday takes place on the fourth Sunday in March each year. Sugar shacks throughout the state open their doors to visitors seeking to learn how maple syrup is made. Visitors can often sample the fresh, homemade syrup over vanilla ice cream and maple candies, among other sweet treats.
  • Each summer the Maine Grain Alliance hosts the Artisan Bread Fair and Kneading Conference in Skowhegan. It’s a daylong celebration of bread and local food, with exhibits and demos, bread and pastry samples, live music, baking wares, Maine-made food and bread.
  • Maine Open Farm Day in July is an annual family adventure in which farms throughout all 16 counties open their gates to offer the public an opportunity to learn about the business of agriculture. There are barn and field tours, milking, hay rides, petting zoos, nature trails, refreshments and plenty of farm-raised products for sale.
  • The apple picking season kicks off the second Sunday in September with Maine Apple Sunday. Orchards across the state open their gates to visitors for hayrides, hot apple cider and other festivities. Even if you miss Apple Sunday, check out the Maine State Pomological Society listings for where you can pick-your-own all fall.
  • One of Portland’s premier fall events is October’s Harvest on the Harbor. The food and wine (and beer and cider) festival features a moonlight gala, cooking demonstrations from local and celebrity chefs, a marketplace filled with food and wine samples, and a heavy emphasis on Maine’s regional bounty.
