Saltwater Beaches of the MidCoast & Islands Region

This region has some of the most popular beaches along Maine’s 3,500 miles of stunning coastline. Perfect for families, the wide, sandy shorelines provide tidal pools with warmer waters just right for playing and finding treasures from the sea, like pieces of glass tumbled for decades by the waves into soft prisms.

Reid State Park

In Georgetown, this beach is great for surfing and has long sandy beaches for those seeking a more relaxing beach day.

Popham Beach State Park

In Phippsburg, Popham Beach offers beachgoers different experiences depending on the tide – high tide leaves a thin crescent of sandy beach to enjoy, while at low tide you can enjoy the vast beach and even walk out to Fox Island. Just pay attention to the tide, so you’re not stranded on the island.

Pemaquid Beach

A quarter-mile white sand beach on Johns Bay on the western shore of Pemaquid Neck in Bristol, near Pemaquid Point Lighthouse.
