Like many of Maine's coastal towns, the Kennebunks first prospered as a shipbuilding and cargo center. In the late 1800s, summer visitors began arriving by train from Boston to enjoy the simple elegance of our towns by swimming in the ocean and canoeing on the rivers while staying in lovely hotels and cottages designed just for tourists. Today, the Kennebunks is a year-round destination, and has remained popular for its rich history and architectural integrity. The "Old Maine" charm of the Kennebunks remains highly visible. The Kennebunks are alive with history, coupled with a good dose of comfort and convenience to make visiting here very enjoyable.
