We Want to Hear from You, Bring Your Quilt to the Museum!

The Maine State Museum is working on a new exhibit! It’s about quilts, about history, about community, and about the comfort we get from special objects.

It’s also about the comfort we get from our social networks, and our communities.

It will be the largest exhibit of historic Maine quilts ever, and we would like your help. One of the threads of the exhibit (pun intended) shows how quilts reflect the community that made them. We’d love to hear from quilters about how making quilts connects you to a larger group, and how that network supports your life in all the big and little ways it does.

Do you make Linus quilts? Quilts of Valor? Bags for foster kids? Quilts for the neighbors who lost their home in a fire? For a church fundraiser? For the grandkids? For the quilt guild? Bring your quilt to the museum on Saturday February 16, 2019, between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM and share your story. The snow date is February 23rd.

We will record your quilt and your story (and you, if you like). We’ll post the videos on our website, and use some of the stories in the exhibit. For free admission, bring a quilt you have made. While at the museum participants will have a chance to take a picture with their quilt and then try out our video kiosk and tell us how making quilts has sparked new friendships and connections.
