A bit of History: In the early summer of 2023, two members of a well-known Grateful Dead tribute band from Maine communicated with each other a shared desire to develop a live ensemble that paid tribute to another American jam band. A band so unique, ambitious, and with a cult following that which rivals the Grateful Dead. Of course, the band that best fits this description, is Phish. Over the course of the 2023 summer months, these two musicians worked hard to study, learn, rehearse, practice, communicate with other skilled Maine musicians about the project; and by early fall, “Primal Soup” was officially formed as a new and ambitious tribute to the music and energy of Phish. A four-piece of seasoned and professional Maine-based musicians, Primal Soup seeks to deliver some of Phish’s most epic musical compositions while also capturing the blissful, cosmic, silly, bold, and sometimes evil nature of their improvisational chemistry and adventures. As Primal Soup whittles out a spot in the local live music scene, there is constant growth, a constant development of chemistry, and a commitment towards surrendering to the flow.
