Greater Freeport Community Chorus 'A Folk Song Celebration' Concert
Greater Freeport Community Chorus 'A Folk Song Celebration' Concert
The Greater Freeport Community Chorus will present “A Folk Song Celebration” Saturday, May 14, in Brunswick. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Brunswick United Methodist Church, 320 Church Road. There is no admission charge, but the chorus will welcome donations for the concert or for a scholarship fund honoring chorus founder Sukie Rice. The May performance will be the group’s first public concert in more than two years. In the midst of the pandemic, a new artistic director, Jesse Myers-Wakeman, joined the chorus and worked with singers in Zoom videoconference rehearsals. Myers-Wakeman, a native of Belfast, Maine, teaches choir and piano at Kennebunk High School. Pianist Kellie Moody accompanies the singers, who are residents of communities throughout the Midcoast. For this concert, the chorus will also be joined by guest instrumentalists, on piano, flute and percussion. The concert will include an arrangement by Myers-Wakeman of the traditional French-Canadian folk song “Ah! Si Mon Moine Voilait Danser!” The multicultural program will also celebrate folk music from Ireland, South Korea, Israel and other countries around the world, as well as American tunes. Visit the chorus on Facebook or at www.gfccsings.org for more information.
