THE Dempsey CENTER
Patrick Dempsey has created countless enduring and celebrated characters throughout his acting career, but his proudest achievement to date may be his charitable organization, the Dempsey Center, based out of Dempsey’s hometown of Lewiston, Maine. Founded in 2008 with a commitment to “treat the person, not the disease,” the Dempsey Center offers free support, education and integrative medicine to anyone impacted by cancer. Inspired by his mother’s valiant fight against multiple bouts of ovarian cancer, Dempsey wanted to provide a safe and welcoming environment for those impacted by cancer to heal and learn.
THE Dempsey CHALLENGE
In 2009, Dempsey launched the now annual Dempsey Challenge; a run, walk and cycle fundraising experience benefitting the Dempsey Center. The challenge raises funds as well as spirits, and attracts participants from across the country, the world and locally here in Maine. All proceeds raised by Dempsey Challenge participants directly benefit the Dempsey Center, allowing the Center to provide its services at no cost to anyone impacted by cancer.
This year’s Dempsey Challenge will take place on September 27-28, 2014 in Lewiston and will feature a Kids’ Fun Run, Survivor Walk, and a free, family-friendly Festival in the Park alongside the run, walk and cycle challenge.
