Admiral Robert Peary’s Eagle Island preserves the former summer home of famed Arctic explorer Robert E. Peary off the coast of Harpswell. Now a National Historic Landmark maintained by the State of Maine and the Friends of Peary’s Eagle Island, the island offers a self-guided experience that blends history and landscape. Visitors can explore walking trails, picnic areas and a small beach, with views across Casco Bay. An audio tour and visitor center video share stories of Peary’s expeditions, family life and legacy. The island is open seasonally and accessible by small watercraft, with landings on the beach. Leashed dogs are welcome, and composting restrooms are available.
