Have you explored the numbered historic pictures hanging around the library and in the book stacks? These are on loan for 2026 from the Ellsworth Historical Society and depict Ellsworth scenes from the late 19th century through the early 20th century. They depict a world of logging, mills, shipbuilding, circuses, town bands, and boys' and girls' athletic teams as well as the disasters of 1923 and 1933 that forever changed Ellsworth's downtown.
Holly Hendricks, Archivist and Chair of Collections at the Ellsworth Historical Society, will share stories of the people, places, and events depicted in these wonderful images through a slide presentation. To learn more about Ellsworth Historical Society visit their website here.
This summer, the Ellsworth Public Library (EPL) is inviting residents and visitors alike to make the library part of their summer plans. From July through August, the library will offer 120 free programs for all ages, bringing the community together through live entertainment, outdoor adventures, summer reading, hands-on activities, and opportunities to learn, create, and connect.
Among the highlights is the library's signature Thursday Nights at the Library series, beginning July 2 at 6 p.m., featuring author talks, live music, and community events. Families can also look forward to Wednesday Night Performances starting July 1 at 6 p.m.
