The Frances Perkins Center is the philanthropic partner of the Frances Perkins National Monument—Maine's third and newest National Park Service site.

Located in Newcastle on 57 pristine acres, the site includes the historic Perkins Homestead with an award-winning restored barn and ell. Here, visitors can explore the Welcome Center and a self-guided exhibit on the life and legacy of Frances Perkins, who served as Secretary of Labor from 1933 to 1945. Perkins is credited with landmark policies such as Social Security, the minimum wage, overtime pay, and industrial safety laws.

The Perkins Homestead was settled in the late 1700s and remained in the family for seven generations. It was the place Perkins considered her one true home, despite it never being her full-time residence. Come learn about and be inspired by one of the most important women in U.S. history. The Welcome Center and exhibit are open seasonally.

The 1.3 mile loop trail winds through wood and fields to the Damariscotta River and is open dawn to dusk. The Welcome Center and exhibit are open seasonally (June- October). Check our website for latest information.
