The annual Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail Festival, held the third week of July, celebrates the cultural and natural heritage of the Moosehead Lake Region, in partnership with the Penobscot Nation. Day and evening programs explore the unique plants, wildlife, and traditions of the Maine North Woods. Two of Thoreau's canoe trips with Penobscot guides launched from Moosehead Lake and inspired his American classic "The Maine Woods." Discover why his words are quoted worldwide, the Maine woods sought for its many human benefits.
