Moose Peak

Moose Peak Lighthouse was established in 1827 on small, barren Mistake Island. The white, conical tower rises 57 feet. It is not open to the public, but you can cruise nearby.

One keeper of this light was fired in the 1880s – because his family was so nasty! The wife and daughters of light keeper Theo E. Dodge were rude and foul-mouthed to visitors, employees and even Dodge himself, according to historical reports. The light keeper tried to escape his kin in the lighthouse – to no avail. After an inspector’s report, Dodge was sacked.
