Adaptive Sports in Maine
Maine is committed to ensuring inclusivity for all, including those with disabilities. Adaptive sports are offered year-round, allowing anyone visiting the beautiful recreational state to not miss out in all Maine has to offer from downhill skiing to golf.
Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation, a program founded in 1982, is the largest year-round adaptive recreation program in the state of Maine that provides over 3,500 lessons during the winter and summer seasons. These lessons occur throughout the state with locations including Sunday River, Black Mountain of Maine, Pineland Farms, Bethel Village Trails, Songo River and Back Cove. Some of the sports they offer include alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cycling, golf, and paddling. In addition, Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation also offers specialty programs that are geared towards veterans and active-duty personnel with disabilities, those who are visually impaired and those who mono-ski.
Veterans with disabilities can join programs offered by Veterans Adaptive Sports & Training Veterans Adaptive Sports & Training (VAST) located at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester. VAST offers year-round as well as indoor sport options which include bowling, target archery, and cycling (mountain, hand, and recumbent) as well as snowshoeing, Nordic pole walking and skiing.
