Residency center for visiting ceramic artists
Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, in midcoast Maine, offers transformative experiences for artists who create with clay. Through our residencies, workshops, educational initiatives, extensive kiln facilities, artist talks and public events, Watershed serves the local, national and international clay community. Watershed’s artist residencies are internationally recognized—for the sense of community, inspiration and creativity they foster. Artists come to live and work at Watershed for 2-, 3- or 6-week sessions, creating a unique community during each residency. Participants enjoy comfortable accommodations, three delicious meals each day, and 24-hour access to extensive studio space, and facilities supporting functional, sculptural and experimental work. Watershed also offers workshops led by nationally-known guest artists who provide hands-on instruction in working with clay. For young and aspiring artists, Watershed facilitates a Visiting Artists program, linking talented ceramic teaching artists with public and private schools, community centers and senior programs. Watershed supports the work of leaders in the ceramics field through exhibitions, public talks and presentations in Maine and around the country. We host community events that build appreciation for ceramic arts and serve as a gathering place for regional clay artists to share ideas and collaborate. Watershed is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that receives generous contributions of funds, time and work from an international community of devoted clay artists. Art collectors, educators, businesses and practitioners all help sustain the vitality of Watershed.
