 # Living In History The Maine Forest and Logging Museum is a living history museum in Bradley, Maine. It was founded in 1960, originally to showcase the colonial era of Maine's rich lumbering history, and later expanded to include the changeover to mechanized methods. MFLM is unique within the State in its focus on forest resources in a cultural context. We have many events that focus on the forest and our goal is to embrace all the forest is and has been! We believe that everyone has a way that they can actively engage with the forest, and to support that, we have regular programming to help people '*find their place in the woods*’. ---  --- # Experience the Past We present the history we preserve through [regular events](https://www.maineforestandloggingmuseum.org/events) in which we demonstrate the skills and run the machines of Maine's lumbering past. Our events showcase our: * operating “up-and-down” sawmill, * authentic blacksmith shop, * batteau, * trappers’ line camp, * covered bridge, * settlers’ log cabin, * restored Lombard log haulers, * shingle mill, and * rotary sawmill. With school tours and public programs at Leonard’s Mills--our colonial village, the Museum provides to residents of the state and visitors an educational and enjoyable experience through living history. ---  --- The buildings, collections, research, and-–most importantly-–the educational and public programs of the Museum are the accomplishments of hundreds of volunteers from throughout the State (drawing from the entire Maine Highlands region, and from points as far as Fryeburg, Millinocket, and Houlton). ---  --- # Our Beautiful Surroundings In addition to providing opportunities to explore Maine's past, the Museum is also a great place to connect with our beautiful natural surroundings. We are deep in the Penobscot Experimental Forest, and provide several ways visitors can enjoy Maine's great outdoors. Exploring the Village area and the Mill Yard is a pleasant stroll. Behind the Village area, we have two [hiking trails](https://www.maineforestandloggingmuseum.org/visit/hiking-trails/): our Nature Trail is an easy walk; our Blue Trail is more challenging. In the Spring, the alewives return to Chemo Pond through the Museum, and visitors can watch them navigate the stream and the fish ladder.
