Cape Newagen Farm is a small, family-friendly alpaca and sheep farm, with fiber studio, located in the rolling hills of North Yarmouth, just west of Freeport, easily accessible from interstates 295 and 95. Once located in Southport, the farm continues to welcome visitors in their new location, by appointment for guided experiences with its farm herd and flock. Appointments can be made online. Educational farm tours introduce alpacas and sheep within a working landscape, allowing visitors to roam the meadows after feeding the animals, while longer alpaca treks invite visitors to walk alongside one of their gentle animals while learning about their care, fiber and habits. The alpacas and sheep while skittish, are often curious and happy to accept hay. Yarn is produced entirely from the farm’s own animals, milled in Maine or spun on site, either left undyed to highlight more than 20 natural shades with some naturally dyed with their own plants. The on-site shop offers farm yarns along with house-made salves and soaps as well as farm fresh eggs from their free ranging chickens. All sorts of small group fiber classes are offered and posted on their website or guests may arrange for personalized classes. The farm is handicap accessible and open by appointment; visit the website for details on farm experiences and booking.
