Short Documentary: Tire Tracks

September 19, 2026

Event Dates

September 19, 2026

For the 20th Anniversary of Tire Tracks, we will show this short documentary on the big screen at the Opera House. Join us for this free event to view this 30-minute film that explores the practice of "burning rubber" with a vehicle to make clouds of smoke, piercing squeals, and bold black marks on the road. Considered a nuisance to some and a way of life for others all across rural America, it is a practice we still see along our island roads.

Filmed in Deer Isle, off the Downeast coast of Maine with the help and collaboration of the film's subjects, Tire Tracks offers an insider's view of this very American pastime.

This event will include a talkback with the film's creator and director, John Steed. Copies of the Tire Tracks DVD will be available in the lobby.

After the event, we invite all to make their way to Stonecutters for karaoke night at 8pm.
