Greg Mort will host his annual Open Studio ILLUMINATIONS II August 1st and 2nd, 10am to 5pm with a special Artist Discussion on Saturday at 1pm at Fieldstone Castle 129 Marshall Pt Rd, Port Clyde, Maine. He will display a new collection of twelve oil paintings focusing on his fascination with an interrelated themed series of small-scale images that capture the ever-changing sea, sky and landscapes of Maine. The village of Port Clyde, has a long history of inspiring famous artists. It located at the end of the St George peninsula and the Mort studio is a short walk from the famous Marshall Pt Lighthouse and Museum.
In addition to his Port Clyde show Morts artworks are also presented in national and international exhibitions including his traveling collection "Inspired by the Cosmos" in Georgia, a one person show; "A Winter's Day" at Somerville Manning Gallery and a group artist show at the Carla Massoni Gallery. Mort's art can be found in sprominent museum collections including the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian, Farnsworth, Portland and many more. Just this year the Reading Public Museum acquired his large-scale watercolor "Laser Apple".
A self-taught artist Mort first came to Maine to paint in 1977 and was "adopted" by the Armstrong and Cook lobstering families. He has returned every summer since then and in 1988 purchased and restored Russell W. Porter's historic Fieldstone Castle. Mort and his artist son Jon Mort continue their annual open studio tradition in their post and beam barn/studio located in Port Clyde near the Marshall Point Lighthouse.
