Camping At White Mountain National Forest
The Maine portion of the White Mountain National Forest lies in the western mountains between North Lovell and Gilead. There are three public campgrounds for visitors.
Hastings and Cold River campgrounds have a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites, while all sites at Crocker Pond campground are first-come, first-served. All locations have access to hiking trails, and Cold River can accommodate recreational vehicles. The campgrounds are open from mid-May to mid-October.
The National Forest also allows wilderness and backcountry camping on trails in Maine.
