Monmouth and Winthrop are both located in the Winthrop Lakes Region in Central Maine which has long drawn visitors seeking to enjoy the quiet life among the woods and lakes. The lakeside community of Monmouth is located halfway between Lewiston/Auburn and Augusta alongside numerous lakes including Lake Cobbosseecontee (locals call it just Cobbossee) which has The Ladies Delight, Maine’s only active inland lighthouse. In the summer, you can attend the Monmouth Fair, a four-day event that features agricultural shows, displays and demonstrations, as well as music, fireworks and games for kids, including a pig scramble. You can also learn about 19th-century Maine at the Monmouth Museum or see a show at The Theater at Monmouth housed in the beautiful and historic Cumston Hall.
Enjoy a quick round of golf or work on your swing at the driving range at the charming 9-hole Cobbossee Colony Golf Course.
The Bates Mill Store is a family-owned and operated business on Main Street, that makes and sells a selection of iconic Bates bedspreads, blankets, and throws, now made by the Maine Heritage Weavers. The small store, with an even smaller museum, offers steep discounts on many products. Open Monday-Thursday, 9:00 - 2:00pm
In Winthrop, you can go fishing on Maranocook Lake or take a short hike up the Mt. Pisgah trail and climb the 60’ historic fire tower for views of the region. In the summer, you can attend the concert series at Norcross Point, the Fourth of July fireworks, or the Sidewalk Art Show. Stop by Freckle Salvage Company or Merchantile on Main Street for a unique gift or vintage find, or head to Route 202 Antiques and Flea Market.
