Hallowell Day Trip

Activities: Walking, sightseeing, dining
Region: Kennebec Valley

A day in Hallowell is a day well spent. This quaint and completely walkable town is full of unique shops and restaurants, all situated along the shores of the Kennebec River. Start off with a tasty brew from Traverse Coffee, then wend your way along Water Street popping into shops. Stop by the Harlow Gallery to see the latest exhibition, find a rare book at Merrill’s Bookshop or peruse the thousands of items at the Hallowell Antique Mall.

Hallowell has an amazing amount of wonderful dining options. Slates Bakery has fantastic scones, muffins and breads if you want a quick breakfast. Pick up a tasty treat at Scrummy Afters, grab a pint or a meal at The Liberal Cup or if you can’t choose between Thai and sushi, go to Café De Bangkok for both. There is something for every taste and craving in Hallowell.

If you want to stretch your legs or are looking for a peaceful nature walk, stroll along the Kennebec River Rail Trail or head up to Vaughan Woods, a popular trail system in the heart of the historic town. For a little break, relax in the colorful Adirondack chairs by the Kennebec on a sunny day and watch the river go by.
