Brunswick & Topsham
Brunswick is home to Bowdoin College, where you can see more than 20,000 objects of decorative art, paintings, sculptures, and works on paper at The Bowdoin College Museum of Art. You can take a self-guided tour in Topsham to such historical locations as the site of an underground tunnel designed to smuggle escaped slaves to freedom.
You can follow the Androscoggin Bicycle and Pedestrian Path, which offers riverside views along a paved, marked trail. At Crystal Spring Farm in Brunswick, you can walk along a 2.5-mile path past sheep-filled meadows. In Topsham, you can visit the nature preserves of Cathance River and Bradley Farm to go hiking along the river and see the wildlife of the wetlands.
In August, you can attend the annual Topsham Fair, which features handmade crafts and harness racing. At the village green in Brunswick, you can hear live music and shop at the farmers' market during the spring and summer or go ice skating during the winter. You can also see a movie at the historic Evening Star Cinema or a show at the Maine State Music Theatre.
