The Black House Museum at Woodlawn offers a close look at early 19th-century life inside a National Historic Landmark in Ellsworth. Built beginning in 1824 and furnished by three generations of the Black family, the house features period European and American furniture, portraits, books, travel souvenirs and decorative arts, all directly connected to the family and the estate. Visitors can explore the home through guided tours or audio tours, gaining insight into architecture, daily life and the people who lived and worked at Woodlawn. The surrounding grounds invite quiet walks, and the first floor of the museum is accessible to guests with mobility needs, with additional interpretation available for upper-level spaces.
