Jon Mort MAINE TREASURES Open Studio Port Clyde Maine
Artist Jon Mort will host his annual summer [Open Studio - Maine Treasures](https://www.facebook.com/Jon-Mort-Maine-Treasures-Open-Studio-1348966568556645/)– August 5th and 6th at Fieldstone Castle in Port Clyde, Maine from 10 am to 5 pm. This exhibition explores the sense of place and identity found through Maine’s unique surroundings and cherished objects. Jon also shares the creative discoveries made during a year of travel driving cross-country and on a return visit to the Italian town he lived in as a twelve year old. Maine Treasures celebrates the preciousness and granular heart of the coastal village Jon grew up in. He endeavors to create art that offers a universal sense of connectivity with balance between the desire for solitude and belonging. At the same time Jon strives to infuse the element of surprise, which he believes is the secret of true beauty knowing the pleasure found in anything captivating is in part that it is rare and unexpected. Jon’s art has been compared to Edward Hopper because Hopper’s subjects suggest insight into their world yet the viewer makes their own bond and interpretation. He has stated: “My art is a dialogue between myself and the viewer. I am motivated by discovery and my vehicle is an artistic conversation” Jon works primarily in colored pencil receiving wide critical acclaim for his mastery of this challenging medium. He is recognized for taking this ancient artistic vehicle to the panicle of perfection. His recent exhibition at the Carla Massoni Gallery garnered high critical praise and marked his 4th consecutive sold out showing. From and early age Jon has worked as an artist and since graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design participated in over 50 museum and gallery exhibitions. He is represented world-wide by the Carla Massoni Gallery and this fall will have a one-person exhibition at the Somerville Manning Gallery which also represents his art. On Saturday at 1 pm Jon will give an Artist Tour and Talk and share more about Maine Treasures. For more information see: [JonMortStudio.com](http://www.JonMortStudio.com) or call 207-372-8658.
