Friends of Fort Williams Park
Native plant landscapes, children's garden, invasive plant control, coastal trails
The Ecology Project at Fort Williams Park is a project of the Friends of Fort Williams Park, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and enhance the natural resources and visitor experience of Fort Williams Park by providing planning and stewardship for projects that support the Park’s ecology, accessibility, and open space.
In a section from the beach to Portland Head Light, along the popular Cliff Walk, invasive plants have been removed and replaced with native plants. In a section away from the ocean near Shore Road, a Children’s Garden delights young and old with a natural play scape.
The Friends are planning more native-plant landscapes in the future, removing the invasive plants that choke the native species and obscure the awe-inspiring views.
