Overlooking the tidal waters of the Pemaquid Peninsula, Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site preserves the remains of an English frontier settlement that once anchored Maine’s early colonial coast. Located in Bristol, the site invites visitors to explore layers of 17th- and 18th-century history through a small museum and visitor center, the partially reconstructed Fort William Henry and the surrounding village landscape. Walking paths trace the outlines of daily life shaped by trade, conflict and the sea. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1993, Colonial Pemaquid is managed by Maine’s Bureau of Parks and Lands and offers a meaningful stop for those interested in early American history, archaeology and coastal heritage.
