The Castine Historical Society is housed in the 1859 Abbott School and the 1850 Grindle House on Castine’s town common. Through permanent and rotating exhibitions, lectures, walking tours and historic reenactments, the society explores the people, events and places that have shaped Castine and the surrounding Bagaduce River region.
The society also maintains an extensive research collection, including photographs, documents, artifacts, maps, books, publications and paintings related to Castine’s history. Research access is available by appointment, supporting scholars and visitors interested in the town’s past.
