Acadia National Park protects some of the most striking coastal landscapes in the eastern United States, where granite mountains rise directly from the sea. Visitors can explore 158 miles of hiking trails, 45 miles of historic carriage roads and 27 miles of scenic motor roads that wind through forests, lakes, wetlands and rocky shorelines. The park spans Mount Desert Island, the Schoodic Peninsula, Isle au Haut and surrounding islands, preserving nearly 64 miles of coastline and more than 20 mountains. Acadia is also rich in biodiversity, with more than 1,100 plant species and a wide range of wildlife found on land and in tidepools. Camping and certain driving access require advance reservations, and visitors are encouraged to plan their trip in advance through the park’s website.
