Marlinespike Chandlery

Marlinespike Chandlery is a nautically themed shop and workshop centered on the traditional art of fancy marlinespike rope work. Founded by Tim Whitten, the chandlery grew from a long-standing passion for rope weaving and braiding and now operates as a year-round studio and retail space in coastal Maine. Visitors can browse hand-crafted ropework alongside nautical antiques, maritime artifacts and other seafaring curiosities that reflect Maine’s working waterfront heritage. The shop also serves as a place to inquire about custom rope projects and occasional workshops focused on traditional seamanship skills.
