Maine State Aquarium in Boothbay Harbor offers an immersive introduction to marine life of the Gulf of Maine through a variety of tanks, hands-on displays and interactive exhibits. Visitors can observe native species such as lobsters, skates, invertebrates and small sharks, and engage with touch tanks featuring tidepool creatures like sea stars and other coastal invertebrates.

Exhibits are designed to reflect the local coastal ecosystem and provide insight into the region’s marine environments and conservation work. The adjacent Learning Lab expands the experience with additional hands-on displays about creatures such as sharks and educational elements that introduce research and stewardship of the Gulf of Maine. Outdoor space overlooking the harbor extends the visit with scenic views. The aquarium is operated by the Maine Department of Marine Resources.
