St. Lucia's Day Procession with Northbound

12/12/21

Come join the light on one of the darkest days of the year!

Imagine Santa Lucia with her crown of candles, joined by children bringing song and light into the darkness of winter. In Sweden, Saint Lucia Day is December’s holiday of light, and Mayo Street Arts is celebrating Scandinavian style with Northbound.

Northbound’s tight five-part harmonies render seasonal classics and fresh takes on traditional folk tunes from Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland. This special holiday concert will begin with a beautiful candlelit Lucia procession.

MSA’s East Bayside neighborhood has historically provided a home to immigrant populations of Irish and Scandinavians, and in 1890 the Danish Lutherans built the St. Ansgar’s church now known as Mayo Street Arts. More recently East Bayside has become home to immigrants hailing from a diverse global base. East Bayside, also known as Kennedy Park, is the most ethnically diverse, densely populated square mile in the state of Maine.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Northbound is composed of five singers from the Boston area with Scandinavian roots. Their music and performances are defined by a love of Nordic vocal music, long-time friendship, humor, and many years of performing traditional and contemporary vocal music together.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds; contact MSA at 207-879-4629 or [email protected] for information on our sliding scale admission policy.
