Stonington is the departure point to safely view Maine's largest Atlantic Puffin breeding colony on Seal Island, managed by the Audubon Seabird Institute. The Town's businesses host an annual 5-day, 4-night series of special, puffin-related events during the height of the bird's breeding season. The 2025 celebration coincides with annual Pride festivities and the opening of the summer's first mainstage production at the Town's iconic Opera House.
