Fiber College of Maine Touchstone Retreats

9/7/23 - 9/10/23

Fiber Art Workshops for makers who want to use their hands to create something beautiful on the coast of Maine.

Since 2003, Fiber College has celebrated fiber in all its forms. The fiber arts connect us to the natural world, time-honored skills, the global community, and to each other. Our annual gathering the week after Labor Day is an established feature of the Maine arts calendar and we are offering immersive, small group workshops at our beautiful oceanfront campground and art facility in Searsport, Maine. These 18 hour, immersive retreats in 2023 are for anyone who wants to create something beautiful while enjoying the gorgeous sunshine of September on the coast of Maine. This year's programs are: (1) HOOKED!Telling your story loop by loop with Elizabeth Miller of Paris Maine. Discover the creative sweet spot where rug hooking meets storytelling. Use scraps of fabric, durable paper, and small items of personal significance to create a hooked art piece that has very special meaning. (2) STEPPING OUT IN STYLE: The reboot! with Molly Grant of Canterbury, New Hampshire. Choose your color and make your own pair of Squire Desert Boots from scratch! This Cordwainer Shop staple is a simple but classic leather boot: ankle high with a toe cap and laces. (3) FIBER FANTASTIC: A weekend of wool and fiber exploration with Gabby Montoya- Eyerman of Colombia Falls, Maine Start with a sheep. Transform the fresh wool into fluffy batts for dyeing, spinning and felting. You'll be able to explore how you want to use these for making art pieces, home textiles and wearables. (4) COLLABORATING WITH NATURE: Prints, Patchwork and Place with Katama Murray of Blue Hill, Maine Tune into the coastal landscape through foraging, photography, eco printing and cyanotype printing on both fabric and paper. Then, take these unique pieces and follow your intuition to create a slow stitched quilt. (5) ALL DOLLED UP: A magical journey with Tilhar the Goblin with Amy Felske of Arlington Virginia Start with the basic Tilhar pattern, and add as many fabric scraps and personal embellishments as you like to create your own, unique version of this costumed, standing 12 inch tall doll. We invite everyone to come and share our passion, unlock your creativity and make something extraordinary.

Registration begins at noon on Thursday September 7, 2023 Departure-approximately 2:00 pm on Sunday Sept. 10, 2023
