Carol L. Douglas Studio features plein air paintings along with workshops and classes offered by artist Carol L. Douglas in Rockport.
Douglas’ work is shaped by direct observation of the landscape, with subjects drawn from the coast, land and sea. Her paintings emphasize mark making and abstraction as a response to place, reflecting the rhythms and forms of the natural environment rather than a prescribed style.
Douglas has taught workshops in Arizona, Maine, New Mexico, Florida, Texas, Massachusetts and New York, and teaches aboard the schooner American Eagle. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across the United States. She studied at the Art Students League of New York with Nicki Orbach, Cornelia Foss and Joseph Peller. Extended painting travels have included a 10,000-mile journey through Alaska and Canada and time working in Patagonia, experiences that continue to inform her work.
