Seasonal Hours

Bar Harbor Historical Society offers guided tours and group visits that explore the people, places and stories that shaped Mount Desert Island. The museum is housed in the former St. Edward’s Convent, a National Register–listed building that once served as the summer residence of St. Katherine Drexel, the second American-born person canonized as a saint. Exhibits and interpretive tours provide insight into Bar Harbor’s social, cultural and architectural history, while the society’s research collections include photographs, archives and historic newspapers available by appointment. Group visits can be arranged in advance.
