Maine’s First Ship brings early coastal history to life through the reconstruction of the 1607 pinnace Virginia, built in the Bath area more than four centuries ago. Located along the Kennebec River waterfront in historic Bath, the organization’s visitor center is housed in the Bath Freight Shed, where year-round exhibits explore early shipbuilding, craftsmanship and the region’s cultural connections. Docent-led tours, workshops and special events offer hands-on ways to engage with Maine’s maritime past. During the sailing season, visitors can step aboard Virginia for deck tours and on-the-water experiences, connecting the story of early exploration with the working river that shaped it.
