Katahdin Cruises and the Moosehead Marine Museum invite you to experience history. Step aboard the Steamboat Katahdin for a leisurely cruise and enjoy the natural beauty and history of Moosehead Lake. Visitors are also welcome to browse the shoreside museum.
The Katahdin, affectionately known as the "Kate", was built in 1914 by the Bath Iron Works shipyard. Steamboats like the Kate carried passengers, livestock, mail, supplies and equipment to large resorts, small hunting camps and villages around Moosehead Lake. After the Depression, the Katahdin was converted to diesel power and used to tow booms (rafts) of logs. She continued that job until 1975 and worked the nation's last log drive. She was then designated a National Historic Landmark. Today she serves as an excursion vessel and living history museum, enabling visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty and rich history of the Moosehead Lake Region.
