Haystack Mountain School of Crafts is an international craft school located on a dramatic Atlantic Ocean campus in Deer Isle. Founded in 1950, Haystack offers one- and two-week studio workshops open to participants of all skill levels, along with residencies, exhibitions and educational programs that explore craft across disciplines. The award-winning campus, designed by architect Edward Larrabee Barnes, includes specialized studios, gathering spaces and oceanfront grounds that support focused creative work. Public programs include artist presentations, studio walk-throughs and end-of-session auctions, which allow visitors to view work in progress and engage with contemporary craft practice. Haystack also hosts visiting artists and scholars from fields including visual arts, science, literature and music, creating an active, interdisciplinary creative environment.
