The Colonial Theatre is a historic arts venue in downtown Belfast offering year-round film and live programming. First opened in 1912 and rebuilt after a fire in the 1920s, the theatre has evolved into a three-screen cinema that includes the Dreamland theater, known for its Art Deco décor and vaudeville-style stage. Visitors can attend a rotating schedule of first-run films, independent and foreign titles, classic movies and special screenings, including Indie Night events that often feature filmmaker Q&As. Beyond movies, the Colonial hosts live music, stage performances and community events. Its neon marquee and rooftop elephant, Hawthorne, make it a recognizable landmark on High Street.
