Seasonal Hours
The Belfast Historical Society & Museum is housed in a brick Federal-style building in downtown Belfast. Exhibits explore the city’s past through maritime history, ship models, a 19th-century apothecary bench, the Percy Sanborn painting gallery and other artifacts tied to Belfast’s history.
Displayed in the adjacent barn are the original two-cell jail and a horse-drawn hearse. A children’s activity is available. Admission is free.
The Belfast Historical Society & Museum also sponsors Belfast: Museum in the Streets, a self-guided walking tour of 30 historic sites throughout downtown, the waterfront and nearby residential neighborhoods.
