Perkins Island
This octagonal wooden Perkins Island Light Station, with its pyramidal fog bell tower, helped mariners to navigate the Kennebec River. It was built in 1898 on an island near Marrtown on the river and was automated in 1959. Friends of Perkins Island Light, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, is maintaining and restoring the light. You can see the light from Parker Head Road in Phippsburg or via a cruise.
