Whether you're planning a relaxing picnic or a challenging outdoor adventure, you'll be sure to find your perfect destination among Maine's 32 state parks. Your choices include parks where you can swim in the ocean or a lake, hike up a mountain or through the woods, or bike along rail-trails ranging from 15-20 miles to 80 miles long. You can also camp at 12 of the state parks in Maine—some of which are even open for winter camping.

With such a variety of state parks in Maine, how do you choose which ones to visit? Maine is home to over 500,000 acres of both state and national parks. If you want to experience the tallest peaks on the Eastern Seaboard and visit famous Cadillac Mountain, head over to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. Another great mountain, Mt. Katahdin, Maine’s highest mountain, can be visited at Baxter State Park in the North Woods. Just north of Camden, you’ll find Camden State Park where you can experience breathtaking views atop Mt. Battie.

Beyond the sightseeing provided by stunning mountain vistas, you can opt to go camping, biking or swimming – or plan a relaxing picnic at other state parks such as Bradbury Mt. State Park, Reid State Park and Aroostook State Park, just to name a few. With 32 state parks in Maine, you are sure to find your own unique adventure here.
