Squapan Public Reserved Land
If you're looking for a semi-remote location rather than a completely isolated wilderness, you may want to visit Squapan Public Reserved Land in northern Maine. Easily accessible from nearby Presque Isle, this 18,000-acre public land is known for its ATV and snowmobile trails and for the activity options at Squapan Lake. Here you'll find 10 miles of forested shoreline to explore by canoe or kayak. You can also fish for landlocked salmon, brook trout, splake and rainbow smelt. The lake has a trailerable boat launch and a few water-accessible campsites along the shore. This public land is open year-round. In addition to snowmobiling, you can also go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing in the winter.
