Maine has many Nordic ski areas, offering excellent trails, wonderful scenery and opportunities for showshoeing as well. Here's a sampling:

Bethel Nordic Ski Center

The Bethel Nordic Ski Center is located on the Common in downtown Bethel. The ski shop is inside the Bethel Inn Resort. The trails use the Inn’s 600 acres and another 500 adjacent acres. The Ski Center, parking and trailheads are accessible at both the Inn’s Broad Street and Mill Hill Road entrances.The Center also offers snowshoeing and fat biking. The historic Bethel Inn offers on-site lodging.

Big Rock has been a downhill ski area since the 1960s and offers cross country ski trails and snowshoeing as well.

The Birches Resort

This resort features cabins and a lodge, with Nordic skiing and snowshoeing on over 40 miles of marked, groomed trails. Other amenities include a restaurant, outdoor sauna, hot tub, rentals and lessons.

Black Mountain Ski Resort

This Alpine & Nordic resort offers 17 km of cross country trails, groomed whenever possible for both skating and classic skiing. Snowmaking is available on 4 km of trail. Nordic trails are open to snowshoeing. Amenities include rentals, lessons, a snack bar, lounge and tubing hill.

Carter's Oxford Nordic center offers 30 km of groomed cross country ski trails, many for beginners and intermediates. Its shop offers the largest selection of Nordic skis and gear in Maine and New England. Carter's Bethel Nordic center offers 55 km of cross country trails for beginners to experts, many with views of the Sunday River Resort, the Mahoosuc and Presidential Ranges. Lodging is available.

Five Fields Farm

This 70-acre orchard offers 27 km of trails for novice, intermediate and advanced skiers and snowshoers. The farm's trails connect to adjoining logging roads and lands owned by the Loon Echo Land Trust on Bald Pate Mountain. Other amenities include a warming house and rentals.

Fort Kent Outdoor Center

This world-class cross country and biathlon center has 23 km of groomed trails and a lodge with kitchen, locker rooms, sauna and waxing rooms.

Harris Farm

This 600-acre dairy and vegetable farm is operated by the fourth generation of its founding family. It offers 40 km of trails. Thirty km are groomed with wide skating lanes; 35 km are set with tracks. Snowshoeing is available. Amenities include a day lodge with wood stove, snack bar, rentals, lessons and ski shop.

Lost Valley

Ten km of cross country ski trails begin at this ski area's base lodge and meander through the surrounding woods.

Maine Huts & Trails

This year-round adventure destination in the Western Maine Mountains links 72 km of trails with four spacious, rustic huts. Nordic skiers and snowshoers can take day trips to the huts - where they can enjoy lunch - or go on longer, overnight adventures. The hut system is also open in warmer weather for hikers and mountain bikers.

Mt Abram offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on Duane’s Nordic Retreat, the original alpine beginner area at the resort.

New England Outdoor Center

The resort is located close to the south entrance of Baxter State Park. Its 10 km of cross country trails are groomed for both classic and skate skiing. The resort also offers lodging and other winter activities including snowshoeing, snowmobiling and ice fishing.

Nordic Heritage Center

This world-class cross country and biathlon center has over 20 km of cross country ski trails. The Center also has a lodge with kitchen, locker rooms, sauna and waxing rooms. Snowshoeing and biking are also available.

The club grooms about 20 miles of cross-country ski trails in the Katahdin region.

Pineland Farms

Pineland has over 5,000 acres of woodlands and fields open to the public, with 30 km of well-kept trails for biking, walking, trail running, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. Pineland offers ski lessons, ski and snowshoe rentals and an outdoor center.

This scenic center offers 55 km of mapped trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and mountain biking. A rustic yurt serves as the lodge.

Smiling Hill Farm

This kid-friendly, 500-acre dairy farm offers 25 km of groomed trails for novice, intermediate and advanced Nordic skiers and snowshoers. Ski rentals are available.

Sugarloaf Outdoor Center

This ski resort's mountainside Nordic center offers 90 km of groomed trails. The Center offers rentals and lessons, a full-service cafe, woodstove, pulk sleds (sleds designed for cross-country skiers, used to pull children in tow) and an NHL sized outdoor skating rink.

This Alpine area offers over 16 km of cross-country trails for beginner to expert. The trails are groomed for both classic and skate skiing. 2.3 km of those trails are lit for night skiing. The resort also offers warming huts, a lodge with a snack bar and fireplace and ski rentals.
