Hallowell

With a total area of 6.1 miles, Hallowell is Maine's smallest city. Many locals refer to Hallowell as “Maine’s Antique Center" because of the many antique shops you'll find along the Kennebec riverfront. You can use the city's boat landing to access the seven-mile Kennebec River Rail Trail. On the third Saturday in July, you can attend the Old Hallowell Day festival, which features fireworks, a cribbage tournament, a road race and a parade. You can also participate in the Mardi Gras Festival (February) and the Riverfront Festival (June). You can also see a show at the Gaslight Theatre, which has been operating since 1937.
