Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum and Arctic Studies Center

The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum was built around material donated by Donald B. MacMillan, a Bowdoin graduate, Arctic researcher and colleague of explorer Robert E. Peary.

In a 46-year career, MacMillan traveled over 300,000 miles, charted new territory, trained students, performed scientific research and studied and aiding the native people of Labrador and Greenland. He brought back films and thousands of photographs of Arctic scenes, and put together a dictionary of the Inuktikut language.

Museum exhibits change throughout the year and feature Arctic exploration artifacts and equipment, traditional Inuit implements, contemporary art and information on northern animals and environments. The museum sponsors a lecture series. Admission is free.
