Downeast Wilderness Experience

Camping the way it used to be, surrounded by all nature as to offer.

Three former Maine Forest Service campgrounds on Deer, Lower Sabao and Upper Cranberry Lakes in Washington and Hancock Counties. These remote, inland lakes offer sand beaches, quiet and solitude, excellent swimming, fishing, canoe and kayaking. Camping the way it used to be, surrounded by all nature as to offer. All sites are shaded by towering pines and are lakeside. All are within a minute's walk to the beach.

Being so remote, we offer no amenities other than outhouses. What we do offer is peace and quiet, loons calling, moose along the shorelines and eagles gliding by.

All the campgrounds are on the State ATV trail system, offering over 800 miles of trails.

Use our campgrounds as a base to explore all of northern Washington and Hancock counties.
