Part public action, this work is free and open to anyone who wishes to follow it through the streets of Portland on August 2nd and Lewiston on August 3rd.

jumatatu m. poe is a choreographer, performer, and educator based between Philadelphia and New York City. Poe’s work continues to be influenced by various sources, including their foundations dancing around the living room and at parties with siblings and cousins in those living rooms and parties, early technical training in contemporary African dance, and recent sociological research of and technical training in J-setting with Donte Beacham. Poe produces dance and performance work with idiosynCrazy productions, a company they founded in 2008 and now co-direct. Jermone Donte Beacham began dancing hip hop in highschool and was later introduced to the world of J-Sette. J-Sette historically refers to the dance style the Jackson State University’s female drill team created in the 1970s. Currently, Beacham has his own J-Sette line, Mystic Force, and plans to increase the group’s renown in J-Sette in their community, and eventually internationally.
