Native American Heritage Festival

A three-day celebration of Native American Heritage Month in Presque Isle, Maine

In celebration of Native American Heritage month, the City of Presque Isle, the Aroostook Band of Micmacs, Northern Maine Community College, Wintergreen Arts Center, and the University of Maine at Presque Isle will present a three-day festival on November 1 - 3 featuring art exhibits, presentations, a film (Wind River) followed by a discussion, book readings, demonstrations, and a teachers' in-service designed to provide resources for teachers to comply with LD291 - a state statute requiring each teacher to bring Native American history into the classroom. All events are FREE and open to the public. Teachers interested in attending the In-Service should contact Central Aroostook Council on Education at (207) 768-9590. Friday, Nov 1: lecture at NMCC at 12 noon; 1st Friday Art Walk at UMPI Reed Gallery, Wintergreen Arts, and NMCC Edmunds Library beginning at 5:00 pm; Film "Wind River" at Wieden Auditorium at UMPI at 6:00 pm Saturday, Nov 1: events all day at Public Library, NMCC, UMPI, Wintergreen beginning at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, Nov 2: Youth-led Social honoring Native American veterans in UMPI Campus Center, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm See schedule and map in this listing.
