Great Schooner Race

7/6/18

Hosted by the Maine Windjammer Association, more than a dozen historic windjammers will race from Islesboro to Rockland in North America's largest annual gathering of traditional schooners. Spectators can cheer on their favorite windjammer at the Race Finish on the Rockland Breakwater.

Since 1977, any traditionally rigged schooner on the Eastern Seaboard has been welcome to participate in the Maine Windjammer Association’s Great Schooner Race held in mid-coast Maine. Vacationers can sign up for a 5- to 6-day cruise that culminates in this extremely informal and friendly event. Spectators can watch and photograph the end of the Race from the mile-long Rockland Breakwater that marks one end of the finish line.
